MMA is simply an abbreviation for Mixed Martial Arts and has been the most well recognised and regarded fighting system since the UFC was established and formed in the early 1990’s.
Traditional Martial Arts are all combined with the most effective techniques integrated within the MCMA system to offer a well rounded syllabus and training method for students to develop their skills as a martial artist.
Complete beginners are welcome and should feel comfortable and confident to work towards their training goals and achieve their belts and higher rank in Martial Arts at MCMA.
We also have students that are competing within various disciplines such as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu / Muay Thai / Judo or Kickboxing and also semi pro or pro fighters that have been assessed and certified within the system for their own benefit and to excel the best they can within the academy and organisation either as a student or instructor.
Some disciplines have a grading structure and some don’t, and traditionally with Mixed Martial Arts there was no structure or belt / grading format but times are changing and academies have started to realise that there should be more of a structured approach to Mixed Martial Arts even though it isn’t a specific sole discipline such as Judo, Karate or Taekwondo which has had many years to develop a structured curriculum it can still apply to Mixed Martial Arts as fighting has massively evolved since the 1990’s.
The majority of students will never compete but can train hard and become experienced and progress to their best ability. Some students excel to competition level and continue that path for many years, and become champions and some try it for a short time and then continue with their training and progress through their ranks as a martial artist within their respective disciplines.
The training levels and grading side of training and progression with MCMA isn’t as some may know of or think of as we have unfortunately had some difficulties with this topic within the industry for many years and it probably will never change.

As disappointing as it is we have a vast amount of parents and students requesting to join MCMA even after training at another club/school/academy. The usual phrase is ‘My Friend is a Black Belt’. We find that the usual timeframe that many instructors seem to issue children and adults black belts is 3 years or maybe 5-7 years at best. As young as 10 years old children are issued with a Black Belt within a Martial Arts discipline!
MCMA alongside many other established and authentic Martial Arts Academies in the U.K. and also around the World that we are in association with find this incredulous.
To achieve a high rank at MCMA the junior students and of course the adult students need to commit to training regularly, respect their team and achieve as we know they can at a high standard.
The MCMA grading criteria is vast and certainly earned once passed within specific levels of training. We are transparent with our standards and what we expect from our students, as our students will be expected to study and train with commitment and dedication for a minimum of 10 years to achieve a black belt under the MCMA Martial Arts & Self Defence Organisation.
Why MCMA?
The System is extremely well rounded - Mixed Martial Arts for sport & competition and for self defence including Kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Japanese Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, Judo, Boxing & Krav Maga, some of the very best disciplines for Grappling, Striking & Self Defence purposes.
Students have the option of competing and taking their martial arts journey to a novice level, semi pro or professional level.
Students have the option to train and progress through the ranks to achieve their promotion within the organisation and ultimately achieve a Black Belt eventually.
Students have the option to train without ever competing or grading to achieve a belt rank.
We are very open and happy for students to train without pressure of any particular type of advancement. We are here for you to be you and train your best and be part of the team. The only things we ask for is to be able to work with others safely and respectfully. Instructors respect the students and the students respect the instructors. We all help each other to create a positive training environment and when we are all together doing what we enjoy, great progress is made.
Commitment - Aspiration - Respect
